The Verizon Taxes and Fees Calculator estimates monthly wireless charges, Verizon surcharges, government taxes, device costs, and the first bill. It supports standard mobile service, data-only devices, Verizon Home Internet, included-fee plans, prepaid service, and custom bill matching.

Because Verizon uses each line’s service address, exact taxes can vary by city and state. Therefore, this calculator combines published Verizon rates with editable location-based tax fields.

How the Verizon Taxes and Fees Calculator Works

First, select the Verizon service type. Next, enter the number of mobile voice and data-only lines on the account. After that, provide the monthly service charge, add-ons, device payments, insurance, discounts, and credits.

The calculator offers two approaches:

  • Detailed estimate: Calculates each published Verizon surcharge separately.
  • Quick estimate: Applies an overall percentage based on Verizon’s disclosed 14%–56% range.

Detailed mode includes the Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge, Regulatory Charge, Federal Universal Service Charge, state and local taxes, and fixed government fees. Moreover, the first-bill section can include activation fees, upgrade fees, device sales tax, and one-time credits.

The final results show the recurring monthly bill, annual cost, cost per line, total taxes and fees, and estimated first bill.

Verizon Taxes and Fees Transfer Fee

Verizon does not charge a money-transfer fee for paying a normal consumer wireless bill. However, transferring an existing telephone number or activating service on another device may lead to other account charges.

A one-time activation or upgrade fee of $40 per eligible line can apply. For example, activating two new lines may add $80 to the first bill.

Activation or upgrade charges =
Eligible lines × $40

Verizon may waive or credit this fee for certain plans, promotions, online orders, or loyalty offers. Therefore, the calculator allows you to change the fee or enter zero.

Verizon International Transfer Fee

Verizon does not describe international wireless usage as an “international transfer fee.” Instead, customers may pay for international calling, roaming, TravelPass, or usage outside their domestic plan.

International usage can also affect the Federal Universal Service Charge because the charge applies to eligible interstate and international telecommunications revenue. However, it does not apply to the entire Verizon bill automatically.

The calculator estimates the eligible portion with this formula:

Eligible interstate service =
Taxable service × Interstate service share

Afterward, it applies the current FUSF factor to that eligible amount. Optional international services should be entered under taxable add-ons or other recurring charges according to their treatment on the Verizon bill.

Verizon Taxes and Fees Exchange Fees

Domestic Verizon bills are normally calculated in US dollars. Consequently, Verizon does not add a standard exchange fee merely because the calculator displays the result in another currency.

The Live Exchange Rate feature converts the estimate for comparison purposes. For example, a customer moving to the United States can display a $118.38 estimated bill in GBP, EUR, CAD, or AUD.

Banks and card providers may use different conversion rates. Moreover, foreign-issued payment cards can include their own exchange margins or international transaction fees. Those charges come from the payment provider rather than Verizon.

Verizon Taxes and Fees Currency Conversion Fee

The calculator does not subtract a Verizon currency conversion fee from a normal US bill. Instead, it converts the displayed amount using a current reference rate.

Converted result =
Estimated Verizon bill × Live exchange rate

The original calculation always remains in USD. Therefore, changing the display currency does not alter the Verizon taxes, FUSF calculation, or line-based charges.

If a bank converts the payment, its final amount may differ from the calculator. In addition, the exchange rate can change between the bill date and the payment date.

Verizon Taxes and Fees for Receiving Money

A Verizon customer does not receive money through the wireless account, so there is no receiving-money fee. In this context, the relevant amount is the total collected by Verizon for service, devices, carrier surcharges, and government charges.

For standard postpaid mobile service, Verizon currently publishes these line-based amounts:

  • Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge: $3.78 per voice line
  • Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge: $3.97 per data-only line
  • Regulatory Charge: $0.21 per voice line
  • Regulatory Charge: $0.02 per data-only line

These are Verizon-imposed surcharges rather than government taxes. Furthermore, the Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge applies to each eligible line, not only once per account.

Verizon states that wireless Home Internet is not subject to these listed mobile charges. Certain Verizon One and qualifying included-fee plans may also include them in the advertised price.

Verizon Taxes and Fees Formula

Detailed mode uses this general formula:

Monthly bill =
Service after discounts
+ Device and non-taxable charges
+ Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge
+ Regulatory Charge
+ Federal Universal Service Charge
+ State and local taxes
+ Fixed government fees

The Federal Universal Service Charge estimate uses:

FUSF =
Taxable service allocation
× Eligible interstate share
× Federal USF factor

For Q3 2026, the FCC contribution factor is 38.8%. Meanwhile, the calculator uses the FCC wireless safe-harbor percentage of 37.1% as a starting interstate allocation. Actual Verizon allocation can differ because bundled voice, messaging, and data services receive separate tax treatment.

The first-bill formula is:

First bill =
Recurring monthly bill
+ Activation and upgrade fees
+ Device sales tax
+ Other one-time charges
− One-time credits

Verizon Taxes and Fees Calculation Examples

Example 1: One $100 Mobile Line

Assume one standard postpaid voice line, a $100 service charge, and no location-based tax entered.

ChargeCalculationAmount
Service after discounts$100.00
Administrative charge1 × $3.78$3.78
Regulatory charge1 × $0.21$0.21
Eligible interstate portion$100 × 37.1%$37.10
Estimated FUSF$37.10 × 38.8%$14.39
Total taxes and surcharges$18.38
Estimated monthly bill$118.38

This example uses the complete $100 service amount as the taxable allocation. However, an actual Verizon bundle may allocate a smaller portion to taxable telecommunications.

Example 2: FUSF Disabled

Suppose the same $100 account does not show a separately recovered FUSF charge.

ChargeAmount
Monthly service$100.00
Administrative charge$3.78
Regulatory charge$0.21
FUSF$0.00
Estimated monthly bill$103.99

Consequently, disabling FUSF reduces the estimate by $14.39.

Example 3: Two Voice Lines and One Data Line

Consider an account with two voice lines, one data-only line, and $180 in monthly service.

ChargeCalculationAmount
Administrative charges2 × $3.78 + 1 × $3.97$11.53
Regulatory charges2 × $0.21 + 1 × $0.02$0.44
Estimated FUSF$180 × 37.1% × 38.8%$25.91
Total estimated fees$37.88
Estimated monthly bill$217.88

Location taxes and fixed 911 charges would increase this amount further.

Example 4: Address Taxes and 911 Fee

Assume a $100 service charge, an 8% address-based tax rate, and a $1.25 fixed fee.

ChargeAmount
Administrative charge$3.78
Regulatory charge$0.21
Estimated FUSF$14.39
State and local tax$8.00
Fixed government fee$1.25
Total taxes and fees$27.63
Estimated monthly bill$127.63

Example 5: Quick Range Estimate

Verizon states that applicable charges can add approximately 14%–56% to many standard monthly access and other charges.

Quick estimateTaxes and fees on $100Estimated bill
Low range: 14%$14.00$114.00
Midpoint: 35%$35.00$135.00
High range: 56%$56.00$156.00

The range does not apply in the same way to Verizon Home Internet or qualifying included-fee plans.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much are Verizon taxes and fees on a $100 bill?

The amount depends on the service address, plan allocation, and number of lines. Using the detailed starting assumptions, the calculator estimates approximately $18.38 in surcharges before additional state, local, and fixed government fees.

What is Verizon’s Administrative and Telco Recovery Charge?

It is a Verizon-imposed surcharge used to recover certain administrative, network, property, and regulatory costs. It is not a government tax.

Is the Administrative charge applied once per account?

No. Verizon states that the charge applies to each eligible line.

What is Verizon’s Regulatory Charge?

The published amount is currently $0.21 per voice line and $0.02 per data-only line. Nevertheless, Verizon can change these charges.

What is the current Federal Universal Service factor?

The Q3 2026 FCC contribution factor is 38.8%. However, that percentage applies only to eligible interstate and international telecommunications revenue.

Does Verizon Home Internet have these mobile surcharges?

Verizon states that 5G and LTE Home Internet are not subject to the listed mobile charges. Address-specific taxes or unrelated charges may still apply.

Does Verizon charge an activation fee?

An activation or upgrade fee of $40 per eligible line can apply. Certain plans, orders, and promotions may waive or credit it.

Why does the calculator ask for a taxable service allocation?

Bundled plans can include voice, messaging, data, and content. Because each component can receive different tax treatment, Verizon may tax only part of the monthly plan price.

Does changing the currency affect the calculation?

No. Live conversion changes only the displayed result. All Verizon taxes and fees remain calculated in USD.

Are the results exact?

The results provide an independent estimate based on published rates reviewed in July 2026. Exact bills can differ because of service-address taxes, plan-specific allocations, promotions, credits, partial billing periods, and Verizon policy changes.
