How the Etsy Fee Calculator US Works

The Etsy Fee Calculator US estimates the charges and expenses associated with selling through Etsy in the United States. First, enter the item sale amount. Next, choose Etsy Payments, an Etsy gift card transaction, Square in-person payment or custom processing terms.

Afterward, open Advanced options to create a more detailed estimate. For example, you can include shipping, gift wrapping, sales tax, listing renewals, Offsite Ads and currency conversion. In addition, the calculator supports Etsy Plus, Pattern, advertising, refunds, shipping labels and product costs.

The result separates Etsy fees from other business expenses. Therefore, you can compare the estimated payment-account payout with your final profit.

Etsy Seller Fees in the United States

Most American sellers pay three primary charges: a $0.20 listing fee, a 6.5% transaction fee and an Etsy Payments processing fee. For US bank accounts, the standard processing rate is 3% plus $0.25 per order.

However, optional services can increase the total cost. Offsite Ads, currency conversion, subscriptions and shipping labels may all create additional deductions. Consequently, the headline 6.5% rate does not represent the complete cost of an Etsy sale.

The rates in this guide reflect Etsy’s published policies reviewed on July 21, 2026. Nevertheless, sellers should compare estimates with the charges in their Etsy Payment account.

Etsy Listing Fees

Every new Etsy marketplace listing costs $0.20. This charge applies whether the product sells or remains unsold. Moreover, a standard listing expires after four months unless it renews.

Automatic renewals also cost $0.20. Similarly, Etsy can charge another listing fee when an additional quantity sells from a multi-quantity listing. Editing an existing listing, by contrast, does not create another listing fee.

Listing activityEtsy fee
New marketplace listing$0.20
Renewal after four months$0.20
Automatic renewal after a sale$0.20
Additional quantity sold$0.20
Editing an existing listing$0.00
Pattern-only listing$0.00

For example, three listing renewals produce a total listing charge of $0.60. The calculator handles this through the Listings created or renewed field.

Etsy Transaction Fees

A US Etsy seller normally pays a 6.5% transaction fee. Etsy calculates this charge from the item price, paid personalization, shipping and gift wrapping. Sales tax collected from a US buyer does not enter this fee base.

Use the following formula:

Transaction fee = (Item price + shipping + gift wrap) × 6.5%

Suppose a product costs $100 and shipping costs $10. In that case, the transaction-fee base equals $110. As a result, Etsy charges $7.15.

Etsy Payments Processing Fees US

Etsy Payments processes cards, supported wallets, Etsy gift cards, credits and coupons. For a seller with a US bank account, the published rate is 3% plus $0.25 per order.

Unlike the transaction fee, payment processing applies to the complete checkout payment. Therefore, the processing base can include sales tax collected from the buyer.

Processing fee = Buyer payment × 3% + $0.25 × Number of orders

For instance, five separate orders create five fixed charges. One combined order, meanwhile, creates only one $0.25 fixed charge. Current country-specific rates appear in the official Etsy Payments Policy.

Etsy Offsite Ads Fees

Offsite Ads promote eligible Etsy listings through search engines and social platforms. When an advertisement leads to an attributed purchase, Etsy can charge an advertising fee.

Previous 365-day shop salesFee rateParticipation
Less than $10,00015%The seller may be able to opt out
$10,000 or more12%Participation becomes mandatory
Maximum charge$100Per attributed order

Once a shop reaches $10,000 in qualifying sales, the 12% rate continues for the lifetime of that shop. However, Etsy applies this charge only to attributed orders.

Additionally, the Offsite Ads fee cannot exceed $100 on one order. Thus, a $1,000 order at 15% produces a calculated charge of $150, but the cap reduces it to $100.

Etsy Currency Conversion Fees

A 2.5% conversion fee can apply when the listing currency differs from the payment-account currency. Consequently, a US seller with a USD payment account can usually avoid this charge by listing products in US dollars.

Currency conversion fee = Qualifying sale amount × 2.5%

The calculator’s Live Exchange Rate performs a separate function. Specifically, it converts displayed results into another currency for comparison. It does not reproduce Etsy’s settlement rate or remove Etsy’s conversion charge.

Etsy Plus, Pattern and Advertising Costs

Etsy Plus costs $10 per month. In return, subscribers receive up to $3 in listing credits and $5 in Etsy Ads credits during each subscription cycle. Unused credits expire at the end of the cycle.

Pattern costs $15 per month after the trial period. Therefore, a seller using both services can pay $25 per month before applicable taxes.

Pattern$15 per month

Because Etsy Ads use a seller-selected budget, they do not have one universal percentage. Instead, enter the amount shown in the advertising dashboard.

Etsy Square In-Person Selling Fees

US sellers can connect Etsy listings to Square for face-to-face transactions. Qualifying Square sales avoid Etsy’s normal 6.5% transaction fee and Etsy Payments processing fee.

A synced listing may still produce a $0.20 renewal charge. Conversely, a non-synced item creates a $0.20 Etsy Square manual fee. Square then applies its own payment-processing charges.

The calculator uses Square’s published card-present starting rate of 2.6% plus $0.15. Nevertheless, individual agreements may provide another rate, so the Advanced options include editable processing fields. Current rates appear on the Square US fees page.

Etsy Fee Calculation Formula

For a standard online order, calculate the main charges as follows:

Total Etsy fees = Listing fees + Transaction fee + Processing fee + Offsite Ads + Currency conversion + Optional Etsy services

After that, estimate final profit:

Net earnings = Seller revenue − Etsy fees − Shipping labels − Refunds − Product cost − Fulfilment − Other expenses

Buyer sales tax appears in the checkout total. However, marketplace tax collected and remitted by Etsy should not count as ordinary seller revenue.

Etsy Fee Calculation Examples

Example 1: Standard $100 Etsy Payments sale

A single listing costs $0.20. Next, the 6.5% transaction charge equals $6.50. Payment processing adds $3.25.

Therefore, total Etsy fees equal $9.95, while estimated net earnings equal $90.05 before product and fulfilment expenses.

Example 2: $500 across five orders

Five listing renewals cost $1.00. Meanwhile, the transaction fee equals $32.50. Processing adds $16.25 because the five fixed charges total $1.25.

As a result, combined fees equal $49.75. Estimated earnings after these fees equal $450.25.

Example 3: Shipping, gift wrap and sales tax

Assume an item costs $100, shipping costs $10 and gift wrap costs $5. In addition, Etsy collects $10 in buyer sales tax.

Seller revenue equals $115, while the buyer pays $125. The transaction fee equals $7.48 because US sales tax stays outside that calculation. Processing, however, equals $4.00 because it uses the full checkout payment.

Including the $0.20 listing charge, total fees equal $11.68. Consequently, estimated earnings before other costs equal $103.33.

Example 4: Sale attributed to Offsite Ads

Start with a $100 standard Etsy Payments order. Regular listing, transaction and processing fees equal $9.95.

If the 15% advertising rate applies, Offsite Ads add $15.00. Therefore, combined fees reach $24.95, leaving approximately $75.05.

Example 5: Offsite Ads fee cap

Consider a single $1,000 attributed order. The 15% advertising calculation would normally equal $150. However, Etsy’s per-order limit reduces the fee to $100.

After adding the $0.20 listing charge, $65 transaction fee and $30.25 processing fee, total charges equal $195.45. Accordingly, estimated earnings equal $804.55.

Example 6: Currency conversion

A standard $100 order produces $9.95 in regular Etsy fees. If currency conversion applies, another 2.5% adds $2.50.

Combined charges therefore equal $12.45. The seller retains approximately $87.55 before additional costs.

How Sales Tax Affects Etsy Fees

Etsy calculates, collects and remits marketplace sales tax for buyers in many US jurisdictions. Although the amount appears during checkout, the seller does not keep it as normal revenue.

For American sellers, the transaction fee and Offsite Ads fee generally exclude buyer sales tax. Payment processing, by contrast, applies to the complete payment. Consequently, adding sales tax can slightly increase the processing charge without changing the transaction fee.

How to Reduce Etsy Seller Fees

First, list products in USD when the payment account also uses USD. This approach can prevent the 2.5% conversion charge.

Next, review automatic renewals and remove listings that no longer support the shop’s strategy. Furthermore, increase average order value where practical because larger orders reduce the relative impact of the fixed $0.25 fee.

Sellers below the Offsite Ads threshold should also review their participation settings. Finally, include packaging, shipping, advertising and product costs before setting prices. Otherwise, a profitable-looking sale can produce a much smaller final margin.
