How the Shopify Fees Calculator UK Works
The Shopify Fees Calculator UK estimates payment processing charges, Shopify transaction fees and optional operating costs for a UK store. Enter your gross sales, select a Shopify plan and choose the customer’s payment method. The calculator then displays the processing fee, estimated payout and net amount in pounds sterling.
For a more detailed estimate, open Advanced options. There you can add multiple transactions, subscription costs, currency conversion, POS Pro locations, refunds, chargebacks, apps, fulfilment, VAT, marketing and other expenses.
Rates below reflect Shopify’s published UK pricing reviewed on 21 July 2026. However, Shopify Plus pricing and individually negotiated merchant rates may differ.
Shopify UK Pricing Plans and Monthly Costs
Shopify offers several plans for businesses of different sizes. Annual billing reduces the effective monthly subscription price for Basic, Grow and Advanced.
| Shopify plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing, monthly equivalent | Typical user |
|---|---|---|---|
| Basic | £25 | £19 | New and small online stores |
| Grow | £65 | £49 | Growing businesses with small teams |
| Advanced | £344 | £259 | Higher-volume and international stores |
| Plus | From £1,800 | Contract pricing | Enterprise businesses |
Subscription prices may exclude VAT. Promotions and negotiated agreements can also change the final amount. Therefore, use the subscription override when your invoice shows a different price.
Shopify Payments Fees in the UK
Shopify Payments charges a percentage of the sale and, for most online methods, a fixed amount per transaction. As sales volume increases, a higher plan may provide lower processing rates.
| Payment type | Basic | Grow | Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Online standard card | 2.0% + 25p | 1.7% + 25p | 1.5% + 25p |
| Online American Express | 3.1% + 25p | 2.7% + 25p | 2.5% + 25p |
| Online international card | 3.1% + 25p | 2.7% + 25p | 2.5% + 25p |
| In-person card | 1.7% | 1.6% | 1.5% |
| USDC | 2.0% + 25p | 1.7% + 25p | 1.5% + 25p |
Shopify describes Plus payment pricing as its most competitive rates. Since these rates can depend on the merchant agreement, the calculator allows custom percentage and fixed-fee overrides. Current plan prices and payment rates appear on the official Shopify UK pricing page.
Shopify UK Payment Method Fees
Customers can use cards as well as several local or alternative payment methods. Each option can produce a different fee.
| Payment method | Basic | Grow | Advanced |
|---|---|---|---|
| Klarna | 4.99% + 30p | 4.99% + 30p | 4.99% + 30p |
| Bancontact | 2.2% + 20p | 1.9% + 20p | 1.6% + 20p |
| iDEAL | 2.2% + 20p | 1.9% + 20p | 1.6% + 20p |
| TWINT | 3.1% + 25p | 2.7% + 25p | 2.5% + 25p |
| Cash, bank transfer or manual payment | No processing fee entered | No processing fee entered | No processing fee entered |
Availability can depend on the store, customer location and Shopify Payments eligibility. Consequently, merchants should compare the calculator result with the fee shown in the Shopify order timeline.
Shopify Third-Party Transaction Fees
A store that uses an external payment provider may pay two separate charges. First, the provider can apply its own processing fee. In addition, Shopify can charge a third-party transaction fee.
| Shopify plan | Shopify third-party transaction fee |
|---|---|
| Basic | 2.0% |
| Grow | 1.0% |
| Advanced | 0.6% |
| Plus | 0.2% |
For example, suppose a Basic store processes a £100 order through a provider charging 3% plus 25p. The provider fee equals £3.25, while Shopify adds £2.00. Therefore, total payment-related charges equal £5.25.
Shopify generally does not apply this additional fee to Shopify Payments, Shop Pay, PayPal Express Checkout or manual payments. Its fees and costs guide explains the applicable exceptions.
Shopify Currency Conversion Fees UK
A currency conversion can occur when a customer pays in a currency that differs from the store’s payout currency. For UK Shopify Payments regions, the published conversion fee is generally 2%.
Starting on 6 April 2026, Shopify calculates this fee directly from the gross order amount:
Currency conversion fee = Gross order amount × Conversion fee rate
Thus, a £100 equivalent order with a 2% conversion fee produces a £2.00 conversion charge. The calculator’s Live Exchange Rate converts the displayed results into another currency. However, that reference conversion does not change Shopify’s underlying GBP fee calculation.
Shopify POS Pro and Additional Costs
Shopify POS Pro costs £69 per month for each charged UK location on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Shopify Plus includes up to 20 POS Pro locations under the published offer.
Besides platform charges, a complete profitability estimate may include:
- Shopify apps and add-ons;
- product cost or cost of goods sold;
- shipping and fulfilment;
- refunds and chargebacks;
- VAT, duties or other taxes;
- marketing expenses;
- additional operating costs.
These entries are optional. As a result, the calculator can provide either a simple Shopify fee estimate or a broader net-profit projection.
Shopify Fee Calculation Formula
The basic payment calculation is:
Processing fee = Gross sales × Percentage rate + Fixed fee × Number of transactions
When other charges apply, use:
Total Shopify fees = Processing fee + Shopify transaction fee + Currency conversion fee + Subscription + POS Pro + Apps + Chargebacks
Finally:
Net amount = Gross sales − Total Shopify fees − Refunds − Product costs − Shipping − Tax − Marketing − Other costs

Which Shopify Plan Has the Lowest Fees?
Basic has the lowest subscription cost, so it often suits new stores. Nevertheless, Grow and Advanced reduce card-processing and third-party transaction rates.
With monthly billing, Grow costs £40 more than Basic but saves 0.3 percentage points on standard online cards. Based only on those two costs, the approximate break-even sales level is £13,333 per month. With annual billing, the subscription difference falls to £30, which reduces the approximate break-even level to £10,000.
The correct plan also depends on staff accounts, reporting, international selling and other features. Therefore, fee savings should form only one part of the decision.
How to Reduce Shopify Fees in the UK
Use Shopify Payments when it fits your business because an external gateway can create an additional Shopify transaction fee. Moreover, annual billing may reduce subscription costs.
Increasing average order value can lower the relative impact of the fixed charge. Meanwhile, local payment methods may cost less than Klarna or international cards. High-volume merchants should also compare plan savings and discuss negotiated Shopify Plus rates.
Before changing plans, calculate fees from several months of actual sales. Include the number of transactions and payment-method mix, rather than relying only on total revenue.

Does Shopify charge VAT on subscription fees?
VAT may apply to Shopify subscriptions and other services depending on the merchant’s tax status and billing details. Check the actual Shopify invoice and enter VAT in the calculator when necessary.
Are Shopify fees refunded after an order refund?
Shopify states that currency conversion and credit-card fees are not returned when a merchant issues a refund. However, no additional conversion fee applies merely because of the refund.
What is the Shopify third-party transaction fee?

Does Shopify charge a fee for cash or bank transfers?
Shopify does not normally apply third-party transaction fees to manual methods such as cash, cash on delivery or bank transfer. Banks and external services may still charge separately.
What is the Shopify UK currency conversion fee?

No. The published UK price is £69 per month for each location on Basic, Grow and Advanced. Shopify Plus includes up to 20 locations under its listed offer.
Can I enter a negotiated Shopify rate?
Yes. Open Advanced options and use the processing percentage, fixed-fee or Shopify transaction-fee override. This feature is especially useful for Plus and custom merchant agreements.
Which Shopify plan is best for a small UK business?
Basic often works well for a new or lower-volume store. However, Grow may become more economical when reduced processing fees exceed the additional subscription cost.
Is this Shopify Fees Calculator UK an official Shopify tool?
No. It provides an independent estimate based on published rates and user inputs. Always confirm final charges in Shopify Admin, the order timeline and your merchant agreement.
